Yes! Free Mind is the perfect place to get started on your dance journey. We welcome dancers of all experience levels, specializing in beginners. We definitely recommend signing up for our classes labeled specifically as Beginner or Intro.

You’re welcome to challenge yourself and many free mind members do! Just know classes labeled advanced beginner or intermediate may move at a faster pace and assume some previous dance experience and not be able to break down moves as in depth. If you’re brand new, try out one of our classes labeled beginner or intro!

Yes, we do require pre-booking. It guarantees your spot, helps you access our building, and lets the instructor prepare for the amount of people to expect. Our classes and workshops can sometimes either be canceled day of, or be booked out fast so we recommend signing up as soon as you can!
-
Head to the “book a class” page on our website! Additionally, we are also on ClassPass and Wellhub if you are a member of those subscriptions. Keep in mind, we cannot make exceptions with any of our cancellation policies on those third party apps like we can with our website bookings.

While not required, we HIGHLY recommend them for your safety and for ease of certain movements. If you do not have dance heels, you can try the class in socks/barefeet first or bring a heel that can wrap around your ankle for support (not including a small strap).

We’d suggest dressing appropriately for the style of class you’re taking. The more “in character” you dress for that class, the better. For example, hiphop classes need baggier clothes, twerk classes need breathable bottoms where your booty isn’t restricted, heels classes should be something you feel sexy in! Floorwork classes need knee pads and socks/heels… that kind of thing (we specify in your confirmation page after booking!).
Make sure you bring a water bottle as well and if you’d like, a little snack for post class fuel.
Levels & Choosing a Class
-
If you’re unsure, start with an Intro or Beginner class! You can always ask us for a recommendation based on your experience & what you’re interested learning.
-
That typically means the class is open to any and all levels, unless specified in the description!
-
Some do! We’d suggest following our team and seeing their pre & post class videos to get a vibe for the classes and levels. Some instructors love a push, some prefer to really cater to the beginner aspect, some are super technical, some embrace the freeing aspect that movement can have.

After you book, you’ll receive a confirmation email with further details.
Make sure to opt into texts when you book, because we send out a text approx 10-15 mins before class begins with an access link to our building doors. If you don’t receive the link, instructions are in your confirmation email!
-
We allow access into the building 10 minutes before class begins, so we’d suggest 10-15 mins early.
-
The link to access our building doors expires 15 minutes after class begins. Entry after that time is not allowed and we do not provide refunds for missing a class due to being late.
-
You can find our cancellation policy located on our book a class page.
-
We have gendered shared bathrooms located right down the hall to change.
-
We do not typically allow people to sit in the lobby during class, as it can disrupt and make other members uncomfortable. It is allowed on a case by case basis, just reach out to us and ask!
-
Our instructors will guide dancers on when they can pull out their phones to film themselves. Just be cautious and courteous of other dancers around you when you pull your phone out! Some people do not like to be filmed.

We do accept teens on a case by case basis, but prior planning is required. Email us at freemindthestudio@gmail.com
